Shortly before Season 10 of Southern Charm started I wondered why everyone hated JT Thomas all of a sudden. He was the saving grace of Season 9. The newbie came onto the series as a breath of fresh air. Between an undying love for Taylor Ann Green and pure hatred for Austen Kroll, I was a fan. JT was a well-made man with manners who stood up for the women of the group. In my eyes, he could do no wrong … until he did.
JT Thomas and Venita Aspen’s flirtaious timeline
Their flirtation started back during the Season 9 cast trip to Jamaica. JT was low after being friend-zoned by Taylor, and Venita was just happy to watch a tropical sunrise. The influencer felt a kinship with the newbie. It probably didn’t help that she found pride in defending him to the group. But somewhere along the line, after their New York trip, Venita started to fall for the Southern gent. However, Venita was very much in a relationship and put her feelings on the back burner.
During a recent Southern Charm episode, fans watched as Venita couldn’t stop smiling, telling Leva Bonaparte that she had a crush on the property developer. The Charmer giggled at how “yummy” he looked in his sky-blue shirt too. The revelation was adorable, and it was apparent Cupid had hit Venita with multiple arrows. The scene before showed Venita running after her man as he stormed out of his own home. While comforting him on the side of King Street, it felt like a meet-cute moment, and fans were left wondering if they kissed. Even JT’s mother adored V, calling her a “tiger.” I had all my eggs in their basket.
JT Thomas breaks Venita Aspen’s heart
In an attempt to woo JT and let him know where she stood, Venita cooked a homemade meal. She took into consideration that he ate lean and liked veggies, presenting a Branzino, which melted in his mouth. She had also hoped to melt his heart but was hit with quite the grenade. After filling his stomach, JT started by saying, “Let me just acknowledge something. There’s something, right? Like, you know that there’s chemistry here? I do.” This was exactly what Venita was hoping to hear as she answered, “I had a feeling that it was there.” She added, “But I didn’t think that you would actually, like, say it!” Insert floating heart emojis now.
JT continued, “Do I know we have chemistry? And am I attracted to you? Yes, and yes.” At this moment, I could feel Venita’s heart pounding with excitement. She pointed out, “My mouth is like, stuck in a permanent smile right now.” But that was when JT brought the hammer down, revealing, “But it’s just, and I’m just being real, I’m seeing someone.” JT, the guy who I had rooted for and, let’s be honest, written a few positive articles about, just let me, Venita, and the rest of the Southern Charm fan base down. And I was not okay.
Is JT Thomas a cad?
I WAS RIDE OR DIE FOR THIS DUDE. But flirting with V … my heart is broken! What annoyed me the most was how JT tried to tweak the wording to make him come across as a gentleman. He said the relationship was just “getting out of the gate,” noting he wasn’t a cheater. JT is the issue here. But he admitted his behavior was on a “slippery slope.” Toying with a woman’s heart while actively dating another woman is emotional cheating. He wanted his cake and eat it, too. Was Venita just seen as the security blanket who he could keep in the wings in case it went wrong?
Poor Venita had no idea what happened with the information coming out of left field. I now find it extremely hard to stand up for JT in any capacity. Until the very end of his last Branzino bite, I was rooting for him. I thought he was different than the rest of the Charleston playboys, but he let me down. The scene was jarring for not only V but also for fans who felt she didn’t deserve this treatment. JT is one hell of an actor, especially with his “Don’t act like you don’t want this just as bad as I do” Notebook moment. So good riddance, JT. At least now Venita can move on and find some other man in a yummy blue shirt.
