During Season 15 of The Real Housewives of New York, newbie friend of the cast Rebecca Minkoff often butted heads with Brynn Whitfield. Brynn was guilty of bashing Rebecca during her confessionals. In addition, Rebecca came up with and participated in a pregnancy prank. This prank rubbed many of her RHONY co-stars the wrong way. Now Rebecca is clarifying the purpose of that pregnancy ruse.
Rebecca Minkoff says the pregnancy prank “was to find a liar”
Well, Rebecca had a moment at the Season 15 RHONY reunion. First, she tackled the topic of Scientology. Rebecca is a member of The Church of Scientology, which made her a controversial cast member from the jump. “It’s hate speech to keep calling a religion a cult,” she stated at the reunion. “I’m tired of the attacks, and it’s suddenly okay with this religion. It is not.”
Plus, Rebecca previously admitted that the pregnancy prank, which Erin Lichy participated in, was a mistake. “You know what, in hindsight – terrible subject matter. I own it,” she stated. “Big mistake on my part.” Still, Rebecca wasn’t exactly pleased with the way the prank landed for viewers, and her co-stars.
“Again, I said maybe we should do this, she agreed, so we both were all in on the idea. I thought in my non-production-oriented mind that the audience would be let in on it and they’d be brought along for the journey,” Rebecca told DECIDER. “So it wasn’t a prank. I even hate that it was called that.”
She continued, “It was to find a liar. It was to find a pot stirrer. I knew who it was, but it seemed like no one else could see the writing on the wall.” Rebecca added, “And then it backfired because the audience wasn’t brought along and they were tricked. But I think if it had been done that way, then no one would have been upset.”
Rebecca Minkoff shared that she “did offend some women” on RHONY
As you may recall, Erin floated the rumor that Rebecca was pregnant, and she didn’t know who the baby daddy was. “And I think in hindsight, I did offend some women who are having infertility issues. And as someone that has suffered from it myself, [it was] probably a bad subject matter,” Rebecca admitted. “I was just trying to find something that was somewhat believable at the time that, like, the pot stirrer would run with.”
Well, Rebecca has decided not to return for the next season of RHONY. Instead, she is going to concentrate on her family, her podcast, and her book.
Real Housewives of New York is streaming on Peacock.
