I can’t help myself when it comes to a loud East Coast Bravo character, as I always find myself rooting for them. This is the case with The Valley’s Jesse Lally. The man is aggressive, selfish, and, quite frankly, a bit out of touch with reality. But he is also funny, driven, and family-oriented, and he genuinely just wants his voice to be heard. Season 2 will show him going through a divorce, and I know, I just know I am going to be rooting for him to come out on top and smelling like a rose.
Jesse Lally is the underdog
No one was quite sure how The Valley would fair as a spinoff. But like everyone else in the Bravosphere, I was pleasantly surprised by how fantastic it was. Jesse became known for his passionate behavior and was a friend of Jax Taylor. Now, I didn’t know the villain of Vanderpump Rules had many buddies, but Jesse seemed legit. I should have clocked that Jesse would be a bit of trouble as he knew Jax from when they both used to model in the Big Apple. However, Jesse worked hard as a real estate agent. Raised in Boston, MA, he was outspoken, and like most East Coasters, he liked to vocalize his issues.
What I loved about Jesse was he was in a a league of his own. Being in the top 1% of the top 1% when it comes to luxury real estate, he knew how to make deals. Yet The Valley viewers learned pretty early on he wasn’t doing so well in the love department. The man tried everything to win back his wife, including a trip on ayahuasca. Sadly, all his efforts came a little bit too late, and the pair decided to call it quits. This is why I am rooting for Jesse. He is the underdog. The anti-hero rarely realized that he was the problem, but that is what made him so damn easy to root for. You wanted Jesse to do better.
Jesse Lally is making some new friends
From frenemies to friends, Jesse has decided to form an alliance with his arch-enemy, Kristen Doute. And I love this for him. As we know, Kristen, who is now expecting her first child, had a hard time fitting in with most of The Valley cast. Recently, Kristen spoke out on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast, noting she has come around on her former enemy. She shared, “I’m excited for people to see a shift in Jesse in Season 2. I mean, there’s no mistake, like I’ve been much more friendly with Jesse.” The change of heart is refreshing, especially after Jesse noted in Season 1 that everyone was done with Kristen.
According to Kristen, the budding friendship has formed due to Jesse tweaking himself. Kristen shared, “I think on The Valley, we saw that a lot from Jesse in the first season. In season 1 of The Valley, everyone saw, it just was like, ‘Poor me,’ like, ‘The world is against me; no one understands me’ mentality. And that, just like, irritates me.” Whatever Jesse has done, he has clearly won the OG over. The mother to be added, “I can consider him a friend now, for sure. But he had to do a lot of work.” She added, “I really think it’s an ego thing. I think people start thinking they’re more important than they are.”
Jesse Lally can be a fan-favorite
Kristen added, “And that’s a tough pill to swallow … Don’t forget where your roots were. Take yourself down a few notches.” But it looks like Jesse has done the work. Season 1 painted Jesse out to be this controlling husband who often lost his temper. But I am hopeful that Season 2 of The Valley will showcase a calmer side to the father of one. I think he will be less stressed since he is no longer trying to save his marriage and concentrating on what matters most. There is also a bunch of new drama in town. Jax and Brittany Cartwright will be going through their own issues.
The heat is now officially off, Jesse. I have high hopes that he might even become this year’s fan favorite. But don’t quote me on this, as there is still plenty of time for something to inevitably go wrong in The Valley.
The Valley is available to stream on Peacock.
