Tyla claims she ‘owns water now’ after 1 billion streams milestone

On February 20, Tyla took to Instagram to celebrate her breakout smash “Water” hitting 1 billion streams on Spotify. As soon as she heard the news in real-time, the singer could not stop screaming and clapping her hands. The fun clip saw her share the news with her friends and team members, who celebrated with her.

Tyla was her usual bold self when she heard the news. The video captured her serving looks in a fun bra top and a Dior cap. Keeping her long tresses open, the singer paired her fit with large hoop earrings and other accessories. Joking with her team to begin the celebrations, she said, “You all don’t do nothing! I’m supposed to have a bouquet. I’m supposed to have a cake.”

Tyla captioned the video, “MY FIRST BILLIIIIIIIIII. I own water now.” While fans could not be present with her to celebrate, they took the party to the comments section. One called her “a superstar in the making” while others congratulated her on the massive feat.

Tyla released “Water” in July 2023 ahead of her self-titled debut album. The hit number ranked seventh on the Billboard Hot 100 and also received the Best African Music Performance award at the Grammys 2024. The song also earned a Billboard award for Top Afrobeats Song and MTV VMA for Best Afrobeats Video.
