Kandi Burruss is booked and busy. Even though she is no longer on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, the RHOA alum has stayed in the limelight and tried her hand at many things including acting and producing. Her latest producing venture is for the newly premiered Othello starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Indeed, Kandi is still shooting for the “T” in EGOT. She and her husband Todd Tucker have produced several shows on Broadway. And in just a few short years, they have racked up a portfolio that features renowned Black artists. Denzel is the latest and Kandi couldn’t be more thrilled.
Kandi Burruss has nothing but praise for Denzel Washington
Producing is just one of Kandi’s latest ventures. When she’s not defending Kenya Moore from the RHOA trailer snub or acting (she was cast in Reasonable Doubt), she’s soaking in the lights of Broadway. She appeared on the Sherri TV show and talked about her latest venture, including what it’s like to work with the Oscar-winning actor on the Great White Way.
“First of all, obviously, they are top tier as far as the talent goes,” she told Sherri with a smile. “And I’ve met Denzel a few times at this point,” she added. “Because John David (Denzel’s son) was in our other show The Piano Lesson.”
She shared that Denzel was such a supportive dad. “That was a wonderful experience and Denzel would just be there supporting his son sometimes, very quiet, laid back.”
“But now, it’s different working with Denzel on Othello,” she admitted. “Because now, this is his territory. He’s making jokes all the time. I was like ‘I didn’t know you were a comedian!’”
“So he’s funny?” Sherri asked.
“He’s hilarious,” Kandi said. “He’s funny, he’s cool, he’s really chill. You know growing up admiring him, you never really think you’ll be in this position working with him. And I’m like behind the scenes as a producer.”
Sherri nodded and said that they were speaking it into existence that Kandi wins the Tony for Othello and speaking into existence that she gets the chance to work with Denzel in front of the camera.
“Oh, speak it, speak it, speak it!” Kandi laughed.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 16 premieres on Bravo on Sunday, March 9 at 8/7c.
