Schwartz & Sandy’s closed their doors for good after only two years in business. Now, Tom Schwartz is reflecting on the lessons learned from the failed venture with Tom Sandoval. One of his biggest lessons? Don’t name the place after yourself.
On Vanderpump Rules, a certain significant other definitely tried to warn him about the potential repercussions of choosing “Schwartz & Sandy’s” as their brand name. However, there are some lessons you just have to learn the hard way.
The one regret about Schwartz & Sandy’s
Last year, the Toms announced that their eponymous restaurant and cocktail lounge would be shutting down for good. Blame it on poor management, or maybe it’s just a sign of the times. Either way, Schwartz told E! News that he was happy with what they attempted.
Tom explained, “No regrets because I learned so much, and I’m for sure a better person because of that place.”
According to Tom, the failed business has made him feel more confident. He said the experience gave him more “grit.” As he was talking, he started to realize that he did have one major regret about his time as the restaurant’s co-owner.
“Maybe I regret putting my name on the sign,” Schwartz confessed. “I would never do that again. Ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, would I ever put my name on the sign of a bar again.”
With that said, we know it wasn’t really Schwartz’s name on the sign that impacted the bar. It was Sandoval who helped sink the ship. After his cheating scandal became headline news, VPR fans spammed the business with negative reviews.
Eventually, Tom took a step back and decided to operate as a “silent partner” for the business. Then, he took that phrase a little too literally, leaving Schwartz feeling “abandoned’ during the final days of the business. Maybe there are a few lessons to be learned here.
Vanderpump Rules is streaming on Peacock.
