Fans are excited for the premiere of the Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 16. Among some familiar faces are a few newbies. Finally, however, longtime friend Shamea Morton has been upgraded to a full-time peach. Shamea has been Porsha Williams’ sidekick for years, but now it is her turn to hold court. Fans will also be learning more about her youngest daughter, Shiloh Mwangi’s health journey.
What health condition does RHOA star Shamea Morton’s daughter Shiloh Mwangi live with?
On Valentine’s Day 2023, Shamea and her husband, Gerald Mwangi, welcomed their beautiful daughter, Shiloh, via surrogacy into the world. The professional dancer’s daughter was born prematurely, weighing 6 pounds and 8 ounces. Shortly after her arrival, Shamea revealed that her daughter had been diagnosed with choanal atresia. According to the Cleveland Clinic, choanal atresia is a rare birth defect that blocks the nasal passage. It occurs when the nasal openings don’t develop properly during pregnancy.
Shamea shared via Instagram that moments after her birth, Shiloh began having trouble breathing. She then had to “be put on 100% oxygen. A few hours later, she was intubated and placed on a ventilator,” she added. “That’s where we are now. I’ve been a mess, heart palpitations, anxiety etc, but Shiloh is a fighter.” Just one week after her birth, Shiloh was wheeled into surgery. Shamea posted an update. The doctors “drilled through the tissue and bone that was completely blocking her nasal passages! Shiloh now has stents in her nose, but she’s been extubated (no more tubes in her throat). She now has a nasal cannula, and she’s in her mommy’s arms! We will know how successful it was once the stents are removed.”
Shamea Morton is keeping followers updated on her health journey
In November 2024, Shamea shared that Shiloh had to be admitted to the hospital. The mother of two wrote, “When it rains, it pours. Shiloh had to be admitted after failing her sleep study last night. Her oxygen dropped too low, and her apnea was severe. @dr.paulaharmon will check her out tomorrow and determine when or not she has to go back into surgery for another choanal atresia dilation.” Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that causes the patient to stop breathing repeatedly throughout their sleep cycle. This can deprive the body of oxygen.
A week later, Shamea posted that Shiloh had to go for another surgery. She told followers, “Shiloh underwent surgery yesterday, and it was a complete success. Thanks to @dr.paulaharmon; her breathing was so much better last night. They did another nasal dilation and shaved down her adenoids. I just appreciate all of the love that y’all have shown my family and I. God is so good. I love all of my prayer warriors.” However, it was a short stay at the children’s hospital as quickly after the first update Shamea showed Shiloh eating and smiling as she headed home to her big sister.
Shiloh is making strides
This year, Shiloh turned 2. Shamea’s daughter is thriving. To celebrate the family held an extravagant Starberry Patch party and didn’t hold back on all the fun. Sheamea took to her Instagram, writing, “Can yall believe my sweet #Shiloh is 2 years old today?! God is so good! My baby is 2!!! It’s only fitting for her to be a Valentine’s Day baby because she’s so full of love and her smile makes you feel like you’ve been shot by Cupid. She is a true testament to God’s grace.” The Bravoleb added, “Father I thank you for the 2 years that you’ve given us with our sweet Princess Shiloh Wanjiru Mwangi. Please continue to cover her, lead and direct her. Amen! HAPPY BIRTHDAY Momma’s sweet angel, you’re the blessing I never knew I needed.”
The family then invited family and friends to celebrate Shiloh. The entire family embraced the Berry Sweet theme. Shamea dresses up like a strawberry, with everyone wearing red. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star added, “We celebrate her second birthday and the incredible progress that she is making in therapy.” The video showed Shiloh taking her first steps during therapy. Shiloh is using a nebulizer to help deliver her breathing medicines. Shiloh was no longer in leg braces but rather a sturdy shoe that gave her more flexibility. Shamea noted that her daughter had “club feet and has come a mighty long way.” With a positive journey like Shiloh’s, there won’t be a dry eye in the house when the newest RHOA season premieres.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta is available to stream on Peacock.
