In the latest episode of the “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard,” Dove Cameron opened up about her mental health struggles. The actor explained, “I didn’t really learn how to navigate, um, like, sort of fan attention or public attention for many years.” Moreover, she recalled how she “used to have full panic attacks.”

During her conversation with the podcast’s host, Cameron revealed that she was underprepared for the “overnight fandom.” The former Disney alum said, “I couldn’t have prepared. I also think like I surprised myself by being more introverted than I anticipated.” She continued, “You truly don’t know until you’re put into that situation. And then you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m very introverted.'”

Cameron also discussed how her personal life had a massive impact on her while growing up. The actor had to suffer the tragedy of losing her father, who passed away by suicide, just before her acting career began. Cameron explained, “There was so much going on in my personal life… That’s gonna affect any kid.” She further said, “When you’re 15 and that happens, it changes the course of your life.”

Dove Cameron then went on to talk about her fame from the popular Disney Channel series, “Liv and Maddie”. The star said, “And within the same calendar year, we were in 10, like 900 million homes and translated into all these different languages.” She expressed that it was extremely tough to process her father’s demise during that time. “There was no way for me to wrap my head around it. Understand it, conceptualize it,” she added.
