Alton Crawford Brown Jr. is a well-known figure in the culinary world, famous as a TV personality, food show host, food scientist, author, and cinematographer. Born on July 30, 1962, in Los Angeles, California, he gained fame as the creator and host of the Food Network’s show “Good Eats.” Alton’s unique mix of humor and science in cooking made the show very popular, running for 16 successful seasons. Alton started his career in film, studying at the University of Georgia and working as a cinematographer on music videos, including R.E.M.’s “The One I Love.” Unhappy with the cooking shows on American TV, he decided to attend the New England Culinary Institute, graduating in 1997. He then created “Good Eats,” which premiered in 1998 and was picked up by the Food Network in 1999. The show earned a Peabody Award in 2006 for its innovative approach. Alton also hosted and commented on “Iron Chef America” and “Cutthroat Kitchen.” He created and hosted travel shows like “Feasting on Asphalt” and “Feasting on Waves,” which explored food history and culture.
