Born in Chihuahua City in 1975 and raised in Tepoztlán, her journey to fame began with opening Contramar in 1998. This popular seafood restaurant in Mexico City quickly became known for its fresh and innovative dishes, especially the legendary tuna tostadas, and its focus on sustainability. Her success with Contramar led Cámara to expand her restaurant business. In 2015, she opened Cala in San Francisco, bringing her unique Mexican cuisine to the United States. She also owns several other successful restaurants in Mexico City, including Capicúa, Barracuda Diner, and MeroToro, each showcasing her commitment to quality and creativity. Besides running restaurants, Gabriela Cámara is a well-known author. Her cookbook, My Mexico City Kitchen: Recipes and Convictions, published in 2019, shares her cooking philosophy and favorite recipes. That same year, she was appointed to the Mexican government’s Council of Cultural Diplomacy and started advising President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on gastronomy and cultural heritage.
