Michele Andrea Sherman, known as Siya, is a trailblazing American rapper born in Barstow, California, on March 23, 1987. Growing up in Brooklyn’s Eleanor Roosevelt housing projects, she faced adversity, including her mother’s drug abuse and her father’s incarceration. Inspired by Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Siya turned to rap as her voice against marginalization. Later, Siya moved to Atlanta to pursue her music career. As one of the first openly gay female rappers, she faced many obstacles but remained true to her identity. Her resilience caught the attention of R&B legend Tank, who signed her to his label, R&B Money LLC. Siya’s hits like “I’m Gone,” “Smoke Drink,” and “One Hunnid” highlight her raw talent and unapologetic style.
